The Ambassador of the USA to Bulgaria John Beyrle is going to visit Tuesday afternoon the northwestern Bulgarian city of Vidin. Beyrle will have a meeting with the Vidin Mayor Rumen Vidov. They are going to discuss the opportunities for investments in the city by American enterprises, the development of cultural tourism, and the potential to advertise Vidin as a tourist destination in the USA.

His Excellency is going to visit later some of the historical and cultural landmarks of Vidin such as the Baba Vida Fortress, the library of Osman Pazvantoglu - the Bosnian Ottoman governor of Vidin who rebelled against the Ottoman Empire in 1798, and the St. Dimitar Cathedral.

Meanwhile, it became clear that the Vidin Mayor Rumen Vidov has initiated the setting up of a working group for the realization of the Danube Bridge II project, which is supposed to connect Vidin with the Romanian town of Kalafat.

The Danube Bridge II project was conceived during the 1999 NATO bombings of former Yugoslavia, and Bulgaria and Romania signed the agreement for its construction in 2000. However, after the situation in Yugoslavia improved, the bridge construction was greatly delayed.
